ChatGPT Ads, Grok Ads and what's next (Gemini Ads)

AI assistants are becoming a place where people research and decide. Here is what advertisers can actually do on each one today. Every claim links to the vendor's own documentation, listed under Sources.

ChatGPT Ads: live, in beta

• ChatGPT Ads now has a beta self-serve Ads Manager. Businesses can register as advertisers, set bids and pacing, upload ads, and launch and manage campaigns. Advertisers can also buy through partners. [1]

• Buying started on an impression (CPM) basis in the pilot. Cost-per-click (CPC) bidding has been added since. [1] Campaigns can optimize for views, clicks or conversions. [2]

• An ad includes an advertiser name, logo, title, copy, image and landing page. Ads appear below ChatGPT's responses and are kept separate from its answers. [1][2][3]

• Ads are selected using the context of the conversation, the ad's landing page, title and copy, and optional advertiser "context hints". [2]

• Campaigns can be created with a guided flow or by bulk upload. [3][4]

• Reporting covers impressions, clicks, CTR, average CPC, average CPM and conversions. [2]

• OpenAI is opening Ads Manager to more businesses gradually. [1]

Grok Ads: not available as an ad placement

• Ads inside Grok's answers have not been announced. In its May 2026 SEC registration statement, the company behind X and Grok said it does "not currently sell or offer advertisers the ability to place ads on the Grok API." [5]

• The same filing describes advertising in the stand-alone Grok offering only as a possible future opportunity. No format, date or buying option has been announced. [5]

• What is live is Grok helping advertisers on X: the filing says Grok supports campaign creation and creative optimization for X ads. [5]

• X also offers an official X Ads MCP server, which lets AI tools such as Grok read and manage X ad campaigns. Campaigns and line items are always created paused, so nothing runs until someone activates them. [6]

Gemini Ads: what's next

• The Gemini app has no ads today. Google says its Gemini app focus is the free tier and subscriptions, and that its ads focus is AI Mode. [7]

• On its Q1 2026 earnings call, Google said a format that works well in AI Mode "would transfer successfully to Gemini app", and that it is "not rushing anything here". That is openness, not a launch. [7]

• Where you can buy AI-adjacent inventory on Google today is Search. Ads can show above, below or within AI Overviews in selected countries. [8] Ads in AI Mode are in testing. [9][10] Google AI Max and broad match make Search campaigns eligible for these placements. [8][10]

• No Gemini app ad format, launch date or buying option has been announced.

What advertisers should do now

1. Get your Google AI Max and Meta Advantage+ foundations right. That's where most AI-driven campaigns run today.

2. Run a controlled ChatGPT Ads test with clear KPIs. Our ad account management covers setup and reporting.

3. Keep landing pages and product feeds clean, because AI ad systems read them.

4. Watch Grok and Gemini, but don't plan around announcements that haven't been made.
