To promote a family attraction, use Google Search to catch families already planning a visit, and Meta to reach local parents with a dedicated family audience and your own customer lists. Target a radius around the attraction, stage bidding as data builds, test objectives and creative, and put more behind only what proves it sells.

Why do family attractions need their own ad plan?

Theme parks, zoos, aquariums and family entertainment centres sell to a different buyer from most events. The ticket is usually bought by a parent planning for the whole group, often for a weekend, a school break or a birthday. We plan targeting around the area visitors actually travel from, and use past visitor lists to reach families who may come back.

A note on our numbers: we haven't published a family-attraction case study. The figures below come from our work in pro sports and live events, labelled with the vertical they come from. We use them to show how the methods behave, not as a promise of results for an attraction.

What does Google Search do for a family attraction?

Search catches families who have already decided they want a day out and are looking for tickets, opening hours or things to do. That's high intent you can bid on.

For a global live entertainment event, we reached 41.20 ROAS on Google Search. The steps behind that, all from the case study:

  • Dynamic radius targeting. We narrowed the radius around the venue as the event got closer.

  • Rich ad assets. We used 10 headlines, 4 descriptions, 2 sitelinks and 3 callouts.

  • Staged bidding. We moved from Manual CPC to Enhanced CPC (at the time) to Maximize Conversion Value with a target ROAS.

  • Keyword refinement. We refined keywords and negatives as conversion data came in.

An attraction isn't a one-off event, so the radius doesn't need to shrink toward a date. But the same idea applies: target the area your visitors actually travel from, and adjust it on results.

What does Meta do for a family attraction?

Meta reaches parents who aren't searching yet, and it's where your own customer data does the most work.

For a major pro football franchise, our Meta work used custom audiences per campaign type, for example a core-fan audience and a separate family-friendly audience. It also used first-party customer lists uploaded as CSV, objectives matched to each campaign type through A/B tests (Traffic vs Engagement, Sales vs Traffic), and delivery shifted toward the top-performing ad sets. Across the account, Meta ROAS was up 303% year over year. That's an account-level sports result, not a result for the family audience alone.

For an attraction, the lesson is to give families their own audience and message instead of mixing them with every other visitor, and to upload past visitor and member lists.

Should you run Google and Meta together?

Usually, yes, with each given a clear job. For a large fan event, we ran Google Search, YouTube and Meta together and paced each against ROAS. The result was 5.03 ROAS on Google Ads, and 2.63 on Meta from a 10-day Sales campaign with Advantage+ placements. Each channel did a different job, so each was judged on its role.

These aren't the only options. Video, ChatGPT Ads and other channels can earn a place where families research and plan days out. We size every channel around results, not habit.

What should you test?

On the fan event, we A/B tested negatives vs none, broad vs phrase match, and 30s vs 15s video. On the pro football Meta account, we tested objectives. For an attraction, the open questions are similar: which match types bring paying families, which objective works best, and which video length tells the story. We test one question at a time.

How can you apply this to your attraction?

  1. Lead with Search for families already planning a visit.

  2. Build a family audience on Meta, plus past visitor lists.

  3. Target where visitors travel from, and adjust on results.

  4. Stage bidding and switch to value-based bidding when the data supports it.

  5. Test the open questions instead of guessing.

Frequently asked questions

How should a family attraction advertise online? Use Google Search to catch families already planning a visit, and Meta to reach local parents with a dedicated family audience and customer lists. Target where visitors travel from, stage bidding as data builds and scale only what sells.

Is Google or Meta better for a family attraction? They do different jobs. Search captures families already looking, and Meta reaches parents who aren't searching yet. For a large fan event, we reached 5.03 ROAS on Google Ads and 2.63 on Meta.

Should a family attraction use a separate family audience on Meta? We build custom audiences per campaign type rather than one audience for everyone. For a major pro football franchise, that included a separate family-friendly audience alongside a core-fan audience.

Do you have family-attraction results? Not yet as a published case study. The figures we share come from pro sports and live events, labelled as such, to show how the methods behave.

Do you only use Google and Meta? No. We plan the channel mix around the goal. Video, ChatGPT Ads and other channels can earn a place.
