You can grow Meta revenue while spending less by tightening audiences, matching each campaign's objective to its goal, and moving budget to the ad sets that win. For a pro football client, that raised Meta ROAS 303% in the same calendar window a year later. Revenue rose 229% while ad spend fell 18%.

Where was the headroom in an already solid account?

The franchise's Meta campaigns weren't broken. In the prior year's comparison period they returned 4.28 ROAS on $578,000 in revenue, which is a respectable result. The goal was to beat it in the same window the following year.

Solid accounts often hide waste in averages. One broad audience serving every campaign, objectives chosen by habit, and budget split evenly across ad sets all look fine at the account level. They also cap what the account can do.

Why build a separate audience for each campaign type?

Different fans buy for different reasons. A season-ticket die-hard and a parent planning a family day out react to different messages, offers and images.

We built custom audiences for each campaign type, for example a core-fan audience and a separate family-friendly audience. Each campaign then spoke to one group with one message, instead of averaging across everyone.

We also uploaded first-party customer lists as CSV files. A team's own buyer data is the strongest signal it has, and using it sharpened targeting from the start.

How do you pick the right campaign objective?

Meta optimizes for whatever objective you choose. Pick Traffic and it finds people who click. Pick Sales and it looks for people who buy. Choosing the wrong objective quietly trains the system toward the wrong outcome.

We didn't assume. We ran A/B tests, Traffic against Engagement and Sales against Traffic, and matched each campaign's objective to the result the test proved. That way the objective followed the evidence, not habit.

Why move budget between ad sets during a campaign?

Even budget splits are comfortable but costly. Once the data showed which ad sets were performing, we moved budget to them and away from the weaker ones. Doing this steadily is one of the simplest and most reliable ways to raise blended ROAS without raising spend.

Where did Advantage+ Shopping fit?

We used Meta Advantage+ Shopping campaigns for a brand partnership. Those partnership campaigns ran at about $1,000 average spend each, averaged 30.12 ROAS, and generated over $30,000 in revenue per campaign. Advantage+ was one tool in the mix.

Why do like-for-like comparisons matter?

Sports demand rises and falls with the schedule, so comparing a playoff month with a quiet month proves nothing. This comparison uses the same calendar window in consecutive years, which keeps it honest.

We hold ourselves to that standard everywhere. We measure against a verified baseline and review performance regularly.

How can you apply this to your Meta account?

Start with four checks:

  1. Audiences: Does each campaign type have its own audience, or does one audience serve everything?

  2. First-party data: Are your customer lists uploaded and up to date?

  3. Objectives: Has each objective been tested, or was it chosen by habit?

  4. Budget: When did you last move money from weak ad sets to strong ones?
